While i agree on the E39, i can’t with the E46 that looks nice even on a standard version.
Would you rather have a Mondeo from the same era?

Honestly, yes.
But the estate I’d most like from that era is also a turbo RWD inline 6.
I just can’t legally import it for 7 more years.

No, but visually it has aged better, especially in ST trim. Almost every normal E46 I see has the awful black trim being highlighted with silver paint.

The E46 suffers from the uncanny valley of trying to add 2000s elements onto a 1990s shape plus no E46 issues were actually fixed with it. As for competition, t he Mondeo didn’t really compete with the 3-series. I’d rather have a Lexus IS or Infiniti G35 or E36 3-series over an E46 .

The fan club is dreadful, but for the car itself they took all the design character out of the E36 and replaced it with mediocrity
